Time-Trial Race

I’ve always wondered how fast would I go on a bike, panting, sweating and ignoring that burning pain in the legs. I guess things will go in slow motion in those moments. Thoughts reverberating back and froth as the clock ticks away.

Riding with the club for more than half a year now, I’ve seen changes all around. From my faintly shaping leg muscles, to the steadying breath on those steep up-hills, scaling distances of more that 100Kms and challenging speeds while covering 50kms in less than two hours flat!

Coming Sunday, the Time-Trial Race is a unique opportunity to clock oneself. There are always numerous world records around, but creating a record, a standard for the self, by the self, is always motivating. And the best part is that it gives the opportunity to surprise oneself for a change.

Nothing fancy about the race, just a conclave of some like minded people eager to know their current limits on a bike. ‘How fast can I go? Should I speed up right from the beginning? A top gear all the way? What if another fellow rider who started one minute after me just passed me?’ These and many more of such inevitable questions pop up in such a trial. And strange and obvious they may sound, they tell a whole lot of story, a fun packed one.

For me, it was an eye-opening experience in one of the short-trials in our weekday runs. Am cent-percent sure that most of us will feel the same after this ultimate time-trial race to be held on this Sunday. And yes, make sure to stretch your legs before the race, you always want to oil and ease up the engine before giving it full throttle!
